This Year's Hottest Swimwear Trends

This Year's Hottest Swimwear Trends

If you need inspiration to keep up with your New Years' resolution to tone up and get fit, a quick peek at the swimwear tends walking the runways for the upcoming 2011 season could be just the push you need. Starting with Miami Fashion Week at the end of the summer, designer swimwear bares more and shows more curves than it has for years. Here's a look at what this summer's swimwear trends could look like on you.

Bikini Revival

The bikini is back with a vengeance - and a whole range of coverage options. You can go bare-as-you-dare with tiny string bikinis inspired by the divas on Brazilian beaches, or opt for sexy coverage wherever you need it most. Tankinis are forgiving if you haven't quite managed those six-pack abs, while still making the most of your shapely bottom and long, sexy legs. High-waisted bikinis show off your curves and accent your flirty side with retro ruffles and skimpy skirts. Swimwear designers are also catering to a wide range of top styles designed to make the most of what you've got with underwires, shaped cups and bandeaus to accentuate your most obvious assets while downplaying imperfections.

Shapely Cutouts

Perhaps the single most prevalent 2011 swimwear trend is less about what's there and more about what's not. Designer one-piece swimsuit offerings flirt with dangerous curves accented with cutouts at the waist, side, thigh, hip, bust and bottom. From modified monokinis that bare as much skin as the most daring bikini to modest, matronly numbers that add a little edge with a peek-a-boo cutout over the heart, cutting fabric away adds major style impact. Sexy cutouts can accentuate your curvy shape by elongating your waistline, draw the eye high on the hip to make your legs go on forever, or distract attention from a full bust by accenting a trim middle. Be careful, though - cutouts can also show off even the slightest bulge if you're not in tip-top shape.

Figure Flatterers

Another new trend for 2011 is swimwear that shapes. The fabric for the Miraclesuit has three times the spandex in traditional swimsuits, which, the manufacturer promises, will instantly take 10 pounds off your silhouette. Choose from many shoulder and strap styles, including halter top and tank top, along with a wide range of patterns and embellishment styles, it's the perfect swimsuit for the almost-perfect figure.

Bright, Bold and Beautiful

Basic black is just the beginning. The swimwear palette this year is bright, bold and beautiful - turquoise, pink, bright green, orange and coppery brown are all in the mix. Splashy prints emblazon bottoms, tops and all-over patterns for this year's swimsuits, including some that are designed to accentuate your figure positives. Sarong-style prints wrap around your waist, calling attention to your curves. Solid-colored bikini bottoms sport flirty ruffles in girly polka dots and flowered prints. Geometrics and ferns combine to create a captivating mix of organic curves and modern angles that flatters nearly any figure type.

If you need still more inspiration to get back on track with your summer goals, hit the shops and check out this year's swimwear lines in person. You're guaranteed to find the perfect swimsuit to poke you back to the treadmill.
