Snapbacks Are Back!

Do you remember the old snapbacks? You know, the adjustable baseball hats with the snaps in the back you would use to fit your head just perfectly? Well they are coming back in style.

These vintage caps that were on everyone's head back in the mid to late 1980's and early to mid- 90's are coming back strong, thanks to several popular rap artists who are donning the trendy headgear in videos and public appearances. Many in the L.A. rap community, like hip hop artists such as Big Sean and Tyga, are sporting snapbacks, and helping to fuel a trend that will soon go mainstream across America. In a recent photograph, Big Sean was seen on the streets wearing an old school snapback that featured the Chicago Bulls logo. This particular hat was one of the more popular snapbacks back in the late 80's to early 90's when Michael Jordan and the Bulls reigned supreme over the N.B.A.

For his part, Tyga helps popularize the trend by wearing a distinctive snapback in his Young Money video. While the old school, throwback vintage snapback look hasn't swept the United States just yet, there is a great chance that it will, according to some fashion experts. Many popular fashion looks originate in the streets, such as low-rider pants, the Du Rag, fashioned grills and more.

Silk Kimono Robe - The History of The Kimono

Ask someone to describe what a silk kimono robe is and most people would know say that it was a type of dressing gown or garment that has a lot of flowers decorating the fabric. Some may know that it originates from Japan and others may recognize as a type of garment that geisha girls wear.

All of these descriptions would be more or less correct but there is a little more to the Kimono than that.

What Is A Kimono?

The word kimono is translated to mean "a thing to wear". It is actually a traditional gown that used to be worn by men, women and children in Japan. The traditional style means that it is a full length garment. The basic structure is a T shaped design with long sleeves and attachable collars.

The gown is made to fold over itself with the left side always being placed over the right side and is held in place with a wide sash belt which is called an Obi. The only exception to this way of wearing the kimono is when a person is being dressed for burial. The right side of the kimono is then folded over the left side.

These days kimonos are worn mostly by women or they are worn by men when reserved for special occasions such as a wedding or tea ceremonies. You will still see that many people from the older generation wear a kimono on a daily basis but this is not the norm.

How Is A Kimono Made?

The traditional kimono is made by hand. However these days, many are produced using the modern convenience of sewing machines. There is still a lot of intricate work that needs to go into each garment. This detailed work can make a kimono a very expensive investment.

A standard kimono will be made from a bolt of fabric which is called a Tan. The standard measurement of a tan is 14.5 inches wide and 12.5 yards in length. This entire collection of material will be used to make a single kimono. Each kimono is constructed out of four different panels of fabric; two panels are used to make up the body of the gown and two panels are used to make up the sleeves.

The most widely used fabric for this sort of garment used to be 100% pure silk. This was one of the reasons that made a kimono so expensive. Special Boat Service Clothing

Let us learn a little history about the SBS. They were first known as the Special Boat Section in the 1940s when they were well-known to b fighting in the Second World War. After that, their name was changed to Special Boat Squadron not long before they finally settled with their present name, the Special Boat Service.

Their roles mostly consist of Amphibious operations or those that involve sea crafts. They are involved in special operations and other operations like counter terrorism. They are composed of a single regiment and are under the garrison of Royal Marines Poole. They go by the motto "By strength and by guile" and have been engaged in several wars such as the Falklands War, War in Afghanistan, the Korean War, Second World War, the Gulf War, and the Indonesian Confrontation.

The Special Boat Service is divided into squadrons that are assigned to specific activities. For instance, two squadrons called the C and the X are for general operations only. For their operations involving sea craft, the S squadron was trained to especially deal with mini submarines and things like smaller boats for military operations. For counter terrorism, another squadron has been assigned, and they are called the M squadron.

However the Special Boat Service is not limited to sea operations. They are also involved in Land Operations and have dealt with quite a few over the years. They have participated in the recent war in Afghanistan, working with other military men on deserts and dry lands. When on land, their main tasks include destruction of enemy's infrastructure, combat action on the territory of the enemy, intelligence gathering, protection of important politicians and senior officers, and the capture of enemies.

The training and selection of the few chosen military men who are able to join this Army is a tough process. There are volunteers who want to join in but they have to have at least two years of regular service from the Royal Marines. There is also a selection program in which individuals will be trained to become a military man.

With all the training that a member of the Special Boat Service undergoes, they all deserve the uniform that earns them respect.
